PER FBP Policy FBP-HR-PRO-00001: Internal employees must be in current position for (1) year or greater to be eligible to apply.

Position Overview

Under minimal supervision, performs database and GIS services including data import, export queries and management.  This position will perform GIS data analysis, compiling, creating, re-projecting, processing, spatial data analyses, QA/QC and map production. Due to the nature of the GIS environment, GIS Specialists may perform tasks requiring elevated privileges within the FB Ports computing infrastructure, in which case appropriate required reading and training will be assigned in coordination with the FBP IT organization.  In particular, the GIS Specialist acts in accordance with applicable IT site policies and procedures including the following:

GIS specific procedures are developed in accordance with the above requirements.

§  Performs GIS data analysis, compiling, creating, re-projecting, processing, spatial data analyses, QA/QC and map production

§  Works with data management specialists to analyze and dynamically display environmental and other types of data

§  Performs risk analysis, modeling, surface and subsurface contouring

§  Work as part of a project team to provide database and GIS tools and to prepare report deliverables and presentations

§  Develops, operates, and maintains mapping applications and tools in the ArcGIS Geographic Information System

§  Evaluates needs analysis and identifies opportunities for improving operations using GIS technology

§  Develops and documents applications and processes utilizing knowledge of GIS technology and software

§  Collects, maintains, and validates GIS data

§  Develops and analyzes ad-hoc maps and data, and provides related graphic support

§  Creates, edits, and maintains GIS vector data

§  Performs QA/QC checks on data, tables, and mapping

§  Works within an ArcSDE environment

§  Plans, designs, develops documents and analyzes basic spatial land relational databases

§  Applies basic software to manage spatial and related tabular data

§  Builds routine databases by capturing map information

§  Produces computer map products depicting contents of databases

§  Writes basic software routines to facilitate analysis

§  Locates sources of GIS data from Government, state agencies, and private companies

§  Operates computer workstations, digitizers, printers, and plotters following directions

§   Ability to create basic user applications and interfaces using various programming languages

§  Analyzes image data using basic image processing software

§  Prepares technical research

§  May need basic knowledge of global positioning systems (GPS)

§  May train and mentor more junior staff

§  Perform duties general/routine to moderately complex in nature

§  Other job related duties as assigned

§  Maintains knowledge of and demonstrates ability to perform work safely in accordance with all approved safety policies, procedures and applicable regulations and performs assigned duties in a safe manner

§  Actively participates in Safety Work Groups

Working Conditions

Work in an environmental restoration atmosphere (outdated and/or abandoned facilities). Potential exposure to equipment movement hazards, dangerous chemicals/solvents or hazardous and radioactive materials if proper safety procedures are not followed.

Environmental conditions may include weather or temperature extremes, inclement weather (such as but not limited to wind, rain, excessive heat, excessive cold, snow/ice, etc.)

In some cases radiological training may be required.

May be required to operate company vehicle during the course of work. All safety and DOT regulations and procedures must be adhered to at all times.
