SUMMARY


SUMMARY The GIS Specialist position requires technical level aptitude involving geospatial data management, analysis, and cartography using Geographic Information Systems (GIS). The position is responsible for the successful creation, maintenance and update of complex database information and support of GIS projects and initiatives. Perform GIS data development activities, including developing and updating GIS databases from hard copy maps, site plans, existing electronic data sets, and GPS (Global Positioning System). Identifies and accounts for differences in map projections and overlay of information from different sources. Duties include establishing, implementing and maintaining standards and procedures for database management, development and documentation. Develops map layouts, web accessible maps and logistics maps. Maintain data synchronization between GIS and other systems. Must have proficient computer skills, knowledge of relational databases, ability to handle simultaneous multiple projects and be a self­starter


ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES


The following duties are normal for this position. • Develop and implement standards for data input, maintenance and map production. • Assist with the development of GIS applications and models that enable data analysis and queries and develops tools and programs to automate routine GIS related tasks. • Create, maintain, and update metadata and geopoints. • Update and create GIS maps for various needs. • Collect data from a variety of sources. • Maintain current knowledge of trends and developments in the field of GIS. • Establish quality control and security maintenance plan for protecting database integrity; identify data errors and make corrections as required. • Performs GIS analysis functions and create maps and reports to communicate results. • Prepare and interpret electronic and hard copy source documents for GIS conversion. • Perform quality control of all data, which includes spatial alignment, attribute checks, topology validation, and other quality control measures to ensure accuracy. • Document work, create metadata and maintain change logs. • Provide entry level training and enterprise support for users. • Provide written and oral communication with the ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical staff. • Ability to work in a team environment and establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with other employees, supervisors, Village officials, outside agencies and the general public. • Performs related work as required. Excellent time management and organizational skills with strong attention to detail. • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with diverse employees and the public and ability to communicate effectively with diverse constituents and staff at all levels both orally and in written form. • Experience creating reports and generating data driven collateral. • Knowledge of commonly used applications such as Microsoft Office and Adobe Products. • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion and tact. • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, officials, administrators, and the public. • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a positive team environment. • Ability to adapt to constantly changing priorities in managing a wide range of projects. • Commitment to contributing to a respectful and caring community for all.
