As we expand our operations, we are seeking a highly skilled and experienced HD Mapping Team Lead to spearhead our efforts in point cloud annotation, map creation, and large-scale geospatial data processing.
Role Overview:
As the HD Mapping Team Lead, you will be responsible for overseeing the development, annotation, and maintenance of high-precision geospatial datasets. You will lead a team of specialists focused on processing LiDAR, sensor fusion, and high-resolution imagery to create HD maps for various applications, including autonomous driving, smart cities, and industrial automation. This role requires a blend of technical expertise, leadership, and strategic thinking to ensure our mapping solutions remain at the forefront of the industry.
Key Responsibilities:
- Strategic Leadership: Define and execute the roadmap for HD mapping projects, ensuring alignment with company objectives and industry advancements.
- Team Management: Lead and mentor a team of geospatial engineers, data annotators, and AI specialists, fostering a high-performance culture.
- HD Mapping Development: Oversee the end-to-end pipeline of HD map creation, from raw data ingestion to final delivery, including LiDAR point cloud processing, SLAM techniques, and sensor fusion.
- Quality Assurance: Implement stringent quality control measures for data annotation and HD map accuracy, ensuring compliance with industry standards (e.g., NDS, OpenDrive, Lanelet2, or proprietary formats).
- AI & Automation Integration: Leverage machine learning and computer vision techniques to automate and enhance mapping workflows.
- Collaboration: Work cross-functionally with software engineers, robotics teams, and external partners to integrate HD maps into broader autonomous systems.
- Technology Evaluation: Stay ahead of emerging trends in HD mapping, recommending new tools, datasets, and methodologies.
- Operational Efficiency: Optimize data annotation workflows, reducing turnaround times while maintaining top-tier accuracy.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all mapping data adheres to global regulations and privacy laws.
Required Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Geospatial Science, Computer Vision, Robotics, Machine Learning, or a related field.
- Experience: 7+ years of hands-on experience in HD mapping, LiDAR point cloud processing, or geospatial data management.
- Leadership: 3+ years of experience leading high-performance teams in a technical environment.
- Proficiency in GIS software (ArcGIS, QGIS) and point cloud processing tools (e.g., TopoDOT, TerraScan, Bentley, LAStools, Pointerra, CloudCompare, or similar).
- Programming: Strong coding skills in Python, C++, or similar, with experience in geospatial libraries (e.g., PCL, GDAL, Open3D).
- Machine Learning & AI: Familiarity with deep learning techniques for object recognition and segmentation in point clouds (e.g., PointNet, DeepLab).
- Industry Tools: Hands-on experience with HD mapping platforms such as HERE, TomTom, NVIDIA DriveWorks, or Waymo HD mapping solutions.
- Project Management: Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments, managing projects with tight deadlines and deliverables.
- Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present complex technical concepts to stakeholders.
- Lanelet2 Standards: Experience working with Lanelet2 for HD mapping and autonomous vehicle route planning.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with cloud-based geospatial computing (AWS, Google Earth Engine, or Azure Maps).
- Background in robotics, autonomous vehicle development, or 3D reconstruction.
- Experience with HD map standardization efforts (e.g., OpenDrive, NDS, ASAM, Lanelet2).
- Previous experience in a startup or high-growth environment.
