Stillwater Sciences seeks a GIS Technician/Cartographer to serve as a member of our GIS team and provide support to river restoration and watershed analysis projects throughout the western U.S. This position will support GIS needs across the company and perform GIS administration tasks as part of a collaborative GIS support team. This role can be based out of one of our following offices: Berkeley, CA; Arcata, CA; Davis, CA; Morro Bay, CA; Portland, OR. We are not accepting fully remote candidates at this time.
The GIS Technician/Cartographer will:

Provide a wide range of customized cartographic support, including maps for project reports, field efforts, presentations, and other needs.

Perform quality assurance and quality control of geospatial data, follow specific data management and cartographic protocols, create and maintain metadata documentation.

Collaborate with non-GIS staff to explain spatial data and communicate data processing workflows needs.

Support field tablet and handheld GNSS mobile mapping device (e.g., Trimble) preparation, processing and management.

Develop and maintain webmaps using ArcGIS Online.

Support GIS and AutoCAD data integration workflows.

Periodically perform data entry, technical writing, and other administrative or project-related tasks.

Work as an integral part multidisciplinary resource teams including biologists, geomorphologists, engineers and other professional staff.

Juggle multiple tasks, projects, and deadlines in a timely manner.
Qualified applicants should possess:

Bachelor’s in GIS, Computer Science, Geography or related degree. 1-2 years’ work experience in a consulting environment a plus. Knowledge of and passion for other physical or biological sciences preferable.

Experience with ESRI's ArcGIS Desktop 10.8 / ArcGIS Pro 3.3. Knowledge of ArcGIS Online and familiarity with Google Earth a plus.

Experience with geospatial workflows for Civil Engineering and familiarity with AutoDesk Civil 3D a plus.

Experience with electronic data collection and processing (ArcGIS Collector/Field Maps, Survey123, Trimble Terrasync and Pathfinder Office).

Attention to detail and commitment to maintaining a high standard of quality in cartographic representation and metadata maintenance. Knowledge of basic principles of graphic design.

Ability to effectively communicate technical questions, issues, or ideas to both GIS and non-GIS staff.

Eagerness to take on GIS administration duties and act as technological support to technical staff.

Ability to manage multiple and conflicting deadlines, excellent time management skills, strong intrapersonal skills, and a willingness to be flexible in approaches to completing tasks.

Strong work ethic, detail-orientation, with excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Ability to work and thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative setting as part of a GIS team providing service to a diverse group of project managers and technical leads.

Stillwater Sciences provides a competitive compensation package including paid time off, 401(k) plan, Employee Stock Ownership Program (ESOP), and full health and dental care.
- $25 - $30 per hour. Compensation rate is commensurate with qualifications and experience. This is a non-exempt position.
