Job Title: GIS Specialist

Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Provide overall management and implementation of NASA's environmental geographical information system (GIS) programs for Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC), Michoud Assembly Facility (MAF), and Santa Susana Field Laboratory (SSFL)
  • Serves as the environmental GIS Point of Contact. 
  • Provides environmental GIS technical expertise and dialog with NASA-wide environmental GIS user groups.  
  • Responsible for quality control (QC) of CERCLA and RCRA environmental investigation field and laboratory data, documentation, and data transfer.
  • Responsible for architectural design, creation, integrity, and archival of environmental GIS databases.
  • Performs data integration into the environmental GIS database from sources such as GPS, geophysical, analytic data, field measurements and notes, hard copy maps, aerial photographs, and tables.  Responsible for GIS data integration and transfer between contractors, Redstone Arsenal, various federal agencies, and other NASA centers.  This includes QC and synthesis of data in multiple formats.
  • Design, create, and output hard and soft copy maps for multiple report types that convey information about wells, sample locations, analyte exceedance zones, historical facilities, wetlands, biological surveys, operable units, ground water levels, special use air space, rocket trajectories, as well as other geographic features.
  • Contribute to various environmental reports and regulations: Environmental site access permit, Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, Environmental Justice, Environmental Resource Document (ERD), Consolidated Environmental Resource Plan (CERP), Wetlands, Natural Resources, NPDES, Environmental Impact Statement (EIS), Field Sampling Plans, and Cultural Resources
  • Experience working in the ArcGIS desktop environment is required. Working knowledge of ArcGIS Map Server, SDE, and Portal
  • SQL query language; Ability to QC, load, and query analytic and sample data. Proficient in MS SQL Manager
  • Comprehensive knowledge of technical cartography methods applicable to environmental delineation and remediation
  • Provide overall management and implementation of environmental GIS programs
  • Responsible for architectural design, creation, integrity, and archival of environmental GIS databases
  • Perform data integration into the environmental GIS database from sources such GPS, geophysical, analytic data, field measurements and notes, hard copy maps, and tables.
  • Responsible for GIS data transfer between contractors and various federal agencies.
  • Design, create and output hard and soft copy maps for multiple report types that
  • convey information about wells, sample locations, analyte exceedance zones, historical facilities, wetlands, biological surveys, groundwater levels, as well as other geographic features.
  • Ability to prepare standardized detail drawings according to given standards and specifications.
  • Coordinates with office staff and clients as required. 
  • Adheres to local, state, and federal survey regulations as well as Accura Engineering procedures
Education/Experience: 
  • B.S. or B.A. in Geography/Geology/Environmental Engineer, or related GIS Environmental Discipline
  • 5+ years of experience working with GIS Technology
  • Excellent computer proficiency (MS Office – Word, Excel and Outlook)
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and be insurable.
  • Knowledge of business office procedures.
  • Attention to detail and documentation.
  • Ability to read, understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients, employees and the public.
  • Must be well organized and detail-oriented.
