MISSION STATEMENT

The Montana Department of Revenue administers almost 40 state taxes, property appraisals, liquor laws, and unclaimed property for the state of Montana. The Property Assessment Division manages Montana’s property tax laws, including the valuation of all taxable property for property tax purposes.

DUTIES


Job Overview\:


This position resides in the Property Assessment Division of Department of Revenue.  The GIS Specialist duties include maintaining and enhancing the cadastral mapping system and GIS-related data and applications for use in ownership determination, parcel identification, valuation and assessment, and assessment processes and providing technical support to users in the use of GIS applications and data. The position does not supervise other staff.



Knowledge of:


·         Cadastral mapping


·         GIS software and databases and related data file formats


·         Individual county database systems


·         Mathematics including algebra, geometry, and trigonometry


·         Deeds and legal descriptions; right-of-way information; data sources such as aerial maps


·         Land information sources such as Government Land Office (GLO), Bureau of Land Management (BLM), US Public Land Survey System, and private surveys


·         Aerial photography


·         Cartographic process


·         Applicable federal/state statutes, administrative rules, and state policies and procedures.

REMOTE/TELEWORK: This position may be eligible to work from an approved worksite within the state of Montana. This position would be required to report to a Department of Revenue office assigned by the supervisor. Employees must meet and sustain Department of Revenue telework eligibility requirements and supervisor's approval to participate in the DOR Telework Program.


(All computer systems and tax guidelines will be trained on the job.)



Training Assignment:  This agency may use a training assignment. Employees in training assignments may be paid below the base pay established by the agency pay rules. Conditions of the training assignment will be stated in writing at the time of hire.

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE


The qualifications desired on the first day of work are\: 


·            Bachelor’s degree in cartography, geography, computer science, GIS, mathematics, or closely related field, and


·            One year of job-related experience using GIS software applications and programs.


·            Other combinations of education and experience will be evaluated on an individual basis.
