Dewberry is currently seeking a Geospatial Analyst for our Tampa, FL or Fairfax, VA offices.  Remote positions will be considered dependent on experience. Typical responsibilities are to work on the GIS/IT and Remote Sensing related projects for state and federal clients across the US. Overall responsibility includes working on a team performing automated and manual processing of land cover mapping for the Coastal Change Analysis Program (C-CAP).

Responsibilities






 

Position requires experience in processing, analysis and review of land cover data, elevation data (typically derived from topographic lidar, topobathymetric data, or IfSAR), vector data (2D and 3D), Digital Elevation Models (DEMs), Digital Surface Models (DSMs), Elevation Derived Hydrography (EDH) data for 3DHP, Watershed Boundary Datasets (WBD), NHD, imagery, and derivative products for state, federal, and private clients across the US. Experience with processing large vector datasets and performing raster geoprocessing preferred. Strong candidates will also have a good, conceptual understanding of fundamental remote sensing concepts and geospatial processes for various products, e.g. photo-interpretation, how lidar sensors work, basic GPS ground survey procedures, airborne lidar trajectory processing, interaction of light and water for bathymetry applications, and ortho-imagery processing.  Strong candidates will also have experience with topology rule sets and concepts.

  • Creation and analysis of data products and processing results of land cover data
  • Perform preprocessing of imagery, lidar and GIS data to be used for land cover classification
  • Quality assurance of multispectral imagery, ancillary data and other land cover production inputs
  • Feature extraction, editing, and attribution
  • Support improvements to automation of the production and QC process through providing technical guidance and ideas
  • Task Management; Problem resolution; Report writing; Collaboration
  • Quality Assurance, documentation and providing feedback.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Geography, GIS, or related field.
  • Working knowledge sufficient to evaluate land cover products
  • Demonstrated experience in land cover data development and/or analysis of remotely sensed imagery or other geospatial data.
  • Demonstrated experience with image processing software such as ERDAS Imagine, eCognition, ArcGIS or similar
  • 3 +years of experience in the GIS/Remote Sensing Field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in elevation data processing and elevation model creation/manipulation, hydrography, or other remote sensing processing, development, and QA/QC.
  • An understanding of GIS, elevation data, lidar, and concepts including a strong knowledge of various raster and vector data types, coordinate systems, projections, and datums
  • In-depth knowledge of ESRI’s products including ArcGIS 10x, ArcGIS Pro, and experience with GDBs.
  • Proficiency in basic computer applications, especially MS Office (Word, Excel, and Access).
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities under tight schedules as required
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

 

Beneficial Skills & Experience

  • Understanding of Lidar production workflow and being able to explain the conceptual basis of Lidar acquisition, processing, and deliverable creation
  • The ability to analyze point clouds and various geospatial data layers derived from point cloud data.
  • Familiarity with wetland identification and characterization
  • Knowledge of coastal management and coastal processes
  • Creative problem-solving skills.
  • GISP Certification, ASPRS certifications in Lidar or other Remote Sensing technologies a plus
  • Working knowledge of Python and/or other programming languages a plus.
  • ArcGIS Data Review and Production Editing experience a plus.
  • Specific experience working with the retired National Hydrography Dataset (NHD), USGS 3DHP, or other hydrology data.
  • Experience in hydrography, H&H modeling, flood mapping or related area.

Must have a valid driver’s license, good driving record and ability to pass a driving record background check.
